From time to time a friend will want me to check out a coin, collection or accumulation. I love doing that as I get to sometimes see stuff that I would not normally run across.
A 1971-D cent that someone had coated with something that altered its appearance akin to a steel cent and contained some slightly magnetic material. It felt slightly heavy in hand as well compared to other cents.
Obviously someone else had 'tested' the coin as there were several scratched areas as you can see on the obverse. The one scratch to the right of the bust clearly shows copper through the coating.
Even though a poor attempt by someone to create a rarity it was still neat to actually run across something like that in what was a random accumulation of tokens, modern stuff (bicentennial, golden dollars, circ wheat cents, etc.) IMG_20240319_195158183~2.jpg IMG_20240319_195142542_HDR~2.jpg

Reminds me of the 1943 copper-colored steel cent I found.
