Thats not the D/S OMM. Even with the pics that don't show much the MM placement is not correct. Also the S top curve of the S is very prominent and non-existent in your photos. Willie you will get there, Varieties are not that easy to find. Keep on looking.
best photo all the die markers are in place bottom right of monticello are very prominent just hard to see without microscope
Willie it is not the OMM. The S mm is seen with the naked eye. add in that the MM is in the wrong position. It is not it.
The first thing you do with a RPM/OMM is to check the placement of MM. Both placements are close. Yours has a counterclockwise rotation different. If you think the photos aren't showing what you see, then work on getting clearer photos. try not to get so close to the coin. Get as close as you can before magnifying ( do not magnify first. If the image is blurry you are too close. Take a photo and only crop to a size that is still semi clear.
Hi Willy - not the OMM. Here is a picture of a downloadable reference from Dr. Wiles. As noted by our fellow enthusiasts, placement must be satisfied first before locating the markers. This is what it looks like -
I was taught to speak to the point, just get to the point, I have no intention to be overly blunt. So, I drive the roads of Denver everyday. I am a NW quadrant of the metro kind of guy. I get the fast lane campers that feel like they are better than you, there speed is better than yours, and ignore you, intentionally aggravating the situation. It really isn't that hard to drive, it is something that if you're not qualified, you shouldn't be projecting the ability to discerne such a complex (obviously) activity. Sorry for my rant. Identifying varieties is not just as easy as saying you say it is.
no kidding but it's guys like you that deter the new guys list when I put on ice skates for the first time I was on two blades and I fell down and cried by the next month I was on singles blades I had to start somewhere so I Don't care what you guys say I'm going to keep trying and learn I can take the heat I grew up in Boston there's nothing you guys could say to me that's going to hurt my feelings believe me have a great day oh and then I went on to play college hockey and I got a scholarship so just goes to show you I'll be a good coin grader one day too
I am not getting it Willie. There are zero plans here to break anyone down. This is a simple hobby. It is or it isn't, seems that by telling someone the truth about there coin is somehow the wrong thing to do? You are right I am gonna start telling you that everything you show is correct for the attribution, good for the grade. You are the best numismatist in the world.
Willie, you are a better man than that. He will have to decide how to determine what is what, himself. He may become a great coin expert on his own, but don't do thing that give anyone an excuse for being wrong. At least in my opinion for what it is worth Jim
It's all good my friend I was looking at coins for 13hrs found some good some I guess wrong attribution oh back at it now found alot of low ms full steps like 10 nickles from the 90s and 2000s couple from 80s but I don't give them the grades like that dumpster fire I just posted just embarrassing the quality the put out
Willie there not even the same coin, that one has nothing to do with a 49 D/S. There are magnificent coins on the market every day scooped up by sellers and buyers that are willing to pay up. One of the best ways to change your responces are questions. Opinions are just that, a simply way for you to come to a conclusion. Authors are very rare around here, and an expert is something that is rare to find around here. I would suggest that you put some money into a way to take clear photos to their isn't any discrepancy in your photos. I think you have potential, don't take the easy way out and give up. take some time to prove your point and attribution. attributions have zero nay sayers.
Part of that is participating in other threads, you may not think they have any way in partaining to your education, but they do.
P&G I have a couple quick questions for you about state quarters do I ask you here or do you want me to email you it'll be like quick just a couple questions pertaining to a grade I don't want you to grade it or nothing like that I just got a question
