I'm currently in the mix on this coin because I've always had a fascination on the mythological creatutures. To me they played a key role that shaped the history in an era of time that's already so full with change, ingenuity, and fascinating on the imagination. I just would like your thoughts before I pull the trigger here in a couple of hours. These are seller photos Thanks everyone. Carthage Ae 16mm (Sicily) 1.67g , 330-300 BC Obv: Palm tree REV: Pegasus flying left SNG Munich 1643 Seem to be a black patina, but the strike is well defined.
Nice coin, all looks right for Carthage. I have a lot of Carthage horses, but only 1 with Pegasus: Carthage Siculo AE 15 Palm Tree Pegasus
I only live 20 miles from Carthage. Well Carthage Texas maybe two different places I reckon. Those are all very cool now I may have to study up on them as well. These Ancient Coins are addicting.
Here is a quick search of the CNG archives ... Carthage pegasos palm tree https://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&ITEM_INVENTORY_NUMBER=&CONTAINER_NAME=&ITEM_LOT_NUMBER=&ITEM_DESC=carthage ae pegasos palm tree&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1&VIEW_TYPE=0 ... your example may not be quite as nice as a few of them, but for $30 it certainly is less expensive!!
Hey @Mikey Zee , I found this one for you: But, quick search on Vcoins they are around $100USD in similar condition as posted.
Steve's post say it all... @Smojo That's precisely the amount I would set at a minimum for that type/grade.... I think $30.00 is a VERY fair price, unless you wish to wait and go for one at a higher grade/higher price listed on Steve's link.
Or one or more of your fellow CoinTalk members might be targeting that coin, and now if they bid they'll appear to have "stolen" it from you. Please do not post coins which are for auction until after the auction closes If you want an opinion on a coin that is currently up for auction, send a private message to a member or two.
Yeah I was thinking same thing. Trust the seller just curious & Carthage I have a few but still learning
Smojo ... I am a bit surprised that your OP-example seems far lighter than the CNG examples => the OP example is 16 mm and 1.6 grams ... yet the CNG examples are all 16 mm yet they're twice as heavy (but I don't know the type well enough to know if that's a real red-flag ... the coin certainly looks authentic, to me) Oh, and Gandalf & TIF are quite correct (asking about coins in live auctions is a unwritten no-no)
Your right TIF. I may make a comment of dissatisfaction when sniped or snipe hunting. It's an auction & fair game. I'd be a liar if I said I'd never cut someone last second. I see your point and agree. I should've known better.
I've done it too, although not since realizing implications a few years ago. It's natural to call on friends for opinions, but there are more negatives than positives when asking about coins currently up for auction. If you want to ask about a coin for sale in a fixed price venue, then the risk is mostly only to you.
From a quick scan through different sites OP coins is actually fairly worn & the edge it seems should extend out a few more mm. With that I'm thinking weight difference is in the wear. I've dealt with this dealer before, seems honest. I agree Mikey. Cool coin & likely if won will be gifted to someone for sentimental reasons. Think $30 would be all I'd spend for it.
