Am I in the wrong here?

Recently I purchased a 1990 UK 5 pence large type off USA Coin Book. It came in the mail the other day and it was the small type not the large one. The listing stated large type and even had the Numista listing screenshotted. I called the seller and told him he sent the wrong coin. He insisted that it was correct. I told him I know the difference large and small. He said to send send it back. I asked if he was going to pay my return postage and he said no. I told him it was his error and that he should pay for it. He accuses me of being argumentive I repeated what I said and his mistake his problem. He said keep the coin and I'll refund you. I'm sure he said that just to get me off the phone.

If a dealer sends you the wrong coin should they pay the return postage since it was their screw up. Most dealers will say keep the coin and I'll refund you but this jerk wouldn't. I has no problem sending the coin back but I should not have to pay the return postage.

Thoughts?

I've only had that happen twice and both times the seller paid the return postage. I don't think it's unreasonable if it was clearly their mistake.

 

If they send the wrong coin it's definitely on them to make it right.

 

I agree; if the wrong coin is sent, it is on the seller to pay for return shipping (or offer some other solution where the buyer keeps the wrong coin and receives something in return-like a discount or reduced price on the coin they actually wanted to buy).

 

I've had sellers offer that. Let me pick a coin equal in value.

This isn't the first time I've had an issue with return postage. One seller flat out refused to pay return postage cuz the original postage was free didnt matter that he sent the wrong coin. He expected me to send the coin back if I wanted a refund. I got PayPal involved but they sided with him. I ended up leaving negative feedback and he sent me a nasty email.

 

That stinks.
If the buyer bought the wrong item or didn't like the coin, then I believe the buyer should pay return shipping. But when the seller made the mistake, they should pay to have it shipped back even if shipping was free.

 

Seller should pay. All the big reputable mail order retailers have that setup already. They're not in the group.

 

The seller should fix the problem on their dime.

I took the refund and kept the coin as he offered. But I should not have had to argue over him not paying return postage. I was willing to send coin back but why should I do it at my expense.

 

The courts are full every day with should and shouldn't issues.

What is important is your issue is settled. Satisfied or not, you settled.

He emailed me later and said he didn't have it. Kind of irritating since that is the one Ia looking for.

 

Send it back and ask when received. To refund postage along with correct coin. Ask if still holds the large date
