'36 Walking Liberty...PMD or die break?

The '3' is missing its point and what looks like an edge where the die may have broken. Thoughts??

The digits are recessed in the die. How could a recess break away?

The digits are not recessed. This is a half dollar. Not sure if these pictures show the digits better.

 

Ahh...I guess I should have read your reply better. You said "In the die". Yes, I see what you mean. SO, PMD??

These are incredible pics you got showing the detail.

 

Take a tooth pick and remove the black thread from the three.

 

I didn't think it was a thread, and didn't even mess with it; but the toothpick worked. It looked like the shadow on the edge of a break. Well now I feel really dumb.

 

Best way to learn.

Trust me on this, I have a lot of experience learning this way.
