Nice posts/coins everyone! I can contribute this AV Solidus 21mm/ 4.50g. 7th Officina/ Constantinople Mint/ struck circa 492-507AD
Sure, I'll go after panzerdawg's sweet gold example ... what could go wrong, eh? Congrats on the great new OP-addition, Smeag (and good luck stockpiling cash for your next vacation holiday) Ummm, I have an example of this dude, but it has been overstruck by Heraclius Heraclius => Overstruck on Anastasius follis ... pretty cool
That is one very strange coin you've got there Gol. It is pretty cool. Panzer is a bit of a show off with all his awesome gold!
Yeah, that AV Solidus from Anastasius was one of my "first" ancients. Got it for $300! It was that coin, which started my interest in ancients. Before then, I just was into the so called modern era material. Thanks to NFA, I converted to the classical era of numismatics Heck, I even collected proof coins issued by the Franklin Mint! Neat overstrike Steve/ I am surprised that so many of the Phocas coins survived to this day, most are mintstate.....considering what Heraclius did to this guy's head!
I am finally able to join this lovely thread with the recent acquisition of these two pieces. Been looking for a few Anastasius' folles for a while now and couldn't pass up on these: Byzantine Empire: Anastasius I (491-518) Æ Follis, Constantinople (Sear-14; DOC 16; MIBE 22) Obv: DN ANASTASIVS PP AVG; Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right Rev: Large M; cross above; CON in exergue Byzantine Empire: Anastasius I (491-518) Æ Half Follis, Constantinople (Sear-23; DOC 18; MIBE 31) Obv: Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right Rev: Large K; cross to left
