I have this coin that i have been unable to 'attribute'. Despite many 'false starts' I have to admit that I have got nowhere.
Has anyone seen a coin like this?
Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?
Could it be 'billon', because there appears to be a 'gold' fleck through it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you.

I am only guessing, but as soon as I seen the shape of his head and jaw line I thought of my Maximinus Thrace Anchialus city gate coin, even the letters are a similar shapes, your reverse looks harder but if you did a Maximinus provincial search in CNG archives you might see something similar. 2015-01-07 01.07.48-1.jpg

Yes I just seen a similar one but not as good in CNG archives, I definitely think we are on the right track.

    Thank-you, everyone, (esp. Gil-galad )
I didn't come across SNG Cop. 119 in my travels until you pointed me to it.
    Thanks, again.

Btw OP, billon is a mixture of silver and copper. Electrum is the mixture with gold in it. Any "gold specks" you might see would be from overcleaned copper or brass.
