Check out this "board type" year set. It features "direct-fit" coin capsules inserted into hard boards that are stored together in a slipcover-style box. This set is sold at coin shops in Korea, and some, like this one, even come with the coins! A friend of mine has had this very set in his hands once and he said that it was bulky and pretty heavy, which makes me wonder if the "board" is just that: Made out of wood. Wood isn't too cool to have around coins...but the coins are in airtites, right? Wonder if Doug would think that's kosher? This is a much easier solution to putting together a South Korean coin album than having to make your own "Frankenstein" albums out of blank Dansco products, like I did.
That IS nice. I wish someone would do something for Gt. Britain coins (not folders). And affordable of course. Maybe if I get a chance to meet David Sundman at Littleton Coin Co. in N.H. this fall I will approach this subject.
I like that better than albums. Does someone make something like this for U.S. coins? What's the deal with wood? I wouldn't think they would have used wood.
Might be real wood. Korean Fir is very popular and used extensively in China for products shipped back to the states. I would assume it's very plentiful the way I have seen it advertised.
Would definitely look interesting. I still doubt if it's wood. The tab might seem to give a hint of wood color. I personally reckon it's cardboard, if not plywood at best. Any other material would dramatically raise the cost up. Size wise, it looks like A4 standard. It reminded me of a massive Chinese coin album that I have that I haven't got around to photographing / scanning. Standard circulating Chinese coins with a lot of pretty design - however a bit too spacious. Material is cardboard and airtite. Downsize of this album is that it's absurdly bulky.
