fake Hadrian

    hi all,

    this coin on ebay
    32 mm
    22.5 gr

    i don't trust this sestertius ric 706
    weight is on low side but possible
    edge not like my other sestertii
    fake patina
    very low price
    on other hand, i asked to undo sale 100 euro

    seller about 1900 100%

    Pretty sure you're the Hadrian expert here. Do you think it's cast?

    seems ok, reverse bit soapy legend.
    pretty patina is fake his other brons is 100 clean

    I'd be asking you for your opinion if I saw that for sale or auction....

    I wish we could clearly see the edges.

    Th legend on the reverse is a bit weak in places, but that's not uncommon with ancient coins. Style is OK. The yellowish color of the metal seems OK too. I can't comment on the edges though, but I agree patina is fake.

    Is it possible it could be real, but just fake patina and lousy pic?

    For what it's worth I don't like the portrait or surfaces and the biggest thing with the surfaces are the tiny pits. I am not qualified to call it fake but I am qualified to say I would not buy it, even for 100 Euro.

    It might just be a bit of corrosion under the fake patina, giving it a cast look, I have a few sestertius that are 22plus gm that are genuine. Also maybe when they applied the fake patina they cleane up the edges with emery paper.

    I think its a genuine coin, only the repatination job didn't work out 100%.
