Today I decided to go to my bank and buy a $25 box of pennies. Here's what I found:

    1935-D
    1944
    1947-D
    1952-D
    1956-D

Also found 88 canadian cents including a 1946 & 1950. And oddly enough found 4 dimes! Looks like somebody's coin sorter went bad haha! Plus a few rolls had more than 50 pennies to boot.

Very good sir. It is a shame that more collectors don't take advantage of this type of search.

Ya know, it's a lot more fun searching for coins in this way. You never know what you'll find. It doesn't cost anything...just face value and you re-wrap the coins you don't need and do it again. It's a time consuming process, but I have a lot of time on my hands LOL!

At the bank today, when I asked for the box of pennies, they thought I was nuts. haha

One suggestion when you wrap up the coins for that return to the bank. Throw in a worn or late date wheat cent. You may just inspire a new collector :D

We must be. A friend of mine saw me purchasing some Mercury dimes at a flea market a while back.

He said; "Hey dude, what're ya doin'? Buyin' some money?"

I thought he was going to fall out in the floor laughing. :(

Everytime a family member asks me what i'm doing when i pay upwards in a hundred dollars for a coin, I wait till the ideal moment when I get ahold of a coin that I already have in the same date and grade, and paid way under what even a dealer would pay for it to resell, I make sure they are with me when I take the coin and sell it for double what I paid :D That pretty much gets them off my back.

    Aidan,

All what guys? National Dealer retired - seems very much like Roy did. Pennycase is the only other one that hasn't posted in some time. Maybe he got married and had kids - trust me - lose most of your free time that way.

Wow, a 2500 cent box yielded only 5 wheats. That just goes to show how tough it's getting to find wheats still in circulation. I'm glad I hoarded them up when I was younger.

I feel even better about finding a 1918 the other day.

I also bought 2 boxes of pennies today, I did not know they existed !!! Usually I just get my cloth bag filled with rolls. The boxes are great !!!

Also, I sure miss living in Detroit SOMETIMES, I miss the canadian coins believe it or not.

    Aj....115 in Phoenix today

I was at the bank today making a deposit and sitting next to the teller was a $25 box of pennies. I never buy boxes but usually 10 rolls. I come home and start reading the message board and wow.......there's this old thread on the finds in a $25 penny box. It sorta freaked me out but thanks Aidan for reviving it. I decided to search my entire box and here is my big tally. Not terribly impressive but fun nonetheless :)

    1955

    Bahamas - 2

    Dimes - 2

The rest are in a tub and will go back to the bank tomorrow to dump in the totally FREE coin counting machine and I'll probably buy another box just to have around for one of those rainy, south Florida days.

Ah, yes there are quite a few rainy days in south Florida. Before moving up here to NW Indiana I lived 10 years in Jensen Beach. I miss that south Florida tropical weather where it can just start raining in the middle of a beautiful, sunny day without a cloud in the sky. A heavy downpour of water that is over in a few minutes so you can get back to your tan. Sorry, I'm just reminiscing...

you watch, the people who thought i was crazy for collecting will be saying sorry when i'm old and cash in all my coins i've had over the years and make a heck of a profit and something to show for your money spent. and what will they have, nothing.:hammer:

Yesterday afternoon I took my zinc pennies back to the bank sorting machine (I keep the pre-1981 copper ones) and bought another $25 box of pennies. I didn't do nearly as well but here are my results. Yesterday I found 14 wheats and today only 8. I did find older pennies though so that was cool.

    1918-D
    1930
    1942

    1953
    1955-D
    1957

    Canadian - 1960, 1977, 1978, 1998

Will go to my bank today (open 7 days a week..yeah!) and grab another box.
