So I came across this one and knew enough about the Non CC GSA's to see it's an amazing deal if it is real. However, the ones I have seen and search for have always said United States above the coin where this one says Morgan Silver Dollar. Does that seem right or is it just an attempt at making it look like a GSA Holder?
That is not a GSA holder. There were at least four firms that released holders intended to look similar to the GSA holder. This looks like one of the more poorly done versions.
Ya I haven't gotten far enough into the facts on who has already made copies but it seemed too good to be true. Glad I noticed and glad I got a response right away before I wasted the money. It's an 1885 O so it's not even a date worthy of a premium. Thanks for saving me from a mistake.
Yeah the actual non-CC GSA holders were very simple in design. They look like the usual CC holders, except where it typically says "Carson City" in the fancy font, there's a block print "United States."
One of the TV coin shows recently had Morgans -- 1921 I believe -- in holders similar to that one. And, no, it was not a good deal.
Ya the pictures were pretty questionable to even judge a grade so I was solely basing it on the holder. Fortunately, I noticed to see what others knew about them before ordering it. Definitely learned something the easy way for once tonight. Thanks guys.
No but I have read and heard stories of people being out of the loop and selling something they weren't aware of as far as Non CC GSA's, among other coins. Oman honest guy but if someone is selling an 1895 bu and happy with $100, who am I to stand in the way of their happiness lol. I did ask today and it was in fact an HSN deal where she was sold on it being from a shipwreck for $69. She was also reluctant to take clearer photos soI could see the actual coin because if it was in fact BU, it at least had some great crescent toning on the reverse for my personal collection. I'm not paying that for an 1885 O that's ungraded and unclear in the pictures.
Haha yep it figures. Can't believe they get away with that. Some guy tried to get me to pay HSN price on a state quarter set he bought from them for $140. I didn't even want them but thought $40 was a generous offer. He was insulted until he realized he could've bought a fancy gold plated set for $48 lol. HSN and that guy on from 4-6am doing pitches on the History Channel gotta go.
