So I recently purchased a couple of roles of mercury dimes to go through them and start up a collection. Among them is this 194? I don't know. Is this an error coin or just damage to the date? Thank you in advance for any help =D

It appears to be a damaged coin. Worth melt value. Also, welcome to CoinTalk :)

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

Like Rick said, it's damaged. I'm not even sure what year it is.

I don't know how long you have been collecting, but it really isn't a good idea to buy rolls of coins on SleazeBay. You're more likely to get junk like this. If you have a local coin shop near you, you'd probably have better success searching their stock.

Even search a dealer "Junk" bin. A lot of nice finds can be had on the cheap.

I've literally just started collecting but I've read up fairly extensively on mercury dimes. I was actually pretty happy with the rolls I got on fleabay. I did thoroughly research the seller first (seamed to literally be the only one on there where the feedback indicated his rolls weren't cherry picked), and I did actually find a 1921 in ag-g in one of the three rolls, along with a few BU common dates and a 1916 p AU...the rest being an okay mix with a few barbers here and there... all in all worth what I paid.

Thanks for all of the quick responses guys, I guess it goes into the junk silver drawer to sell when silver spikes again =D
