NASCAR had more than 100 laps to go and it was halftime at the Miami/New England game, so I decided to make a quick trip to Mickey D's. As usual, when I got home, I unloaded the change from my pocket. I have a jar for nickels & dimes, one for cents and one for quarters. It makes it easier when I decide to wrap them. I don't ordinarily check my change, so when I do roll it, I can honestly say that it is "unsearched".:) I usually mark the wrappers as such when I take them to the bank. Who knows! Maybe the tellers have other collectors who search rolls, and they might get a kick out of it.:D:happy:

Granted, I need my glasses or a loupe to even see a date, but it is easy enough to recognize the size of each coin as I sort them. When I got to the last coin, I knew it was a nickel, but it didn't feel right. So, I grabbed my loupe and examined it. What do you know! It was a 1944-P Jeff.:woot:

Now, I need to ask you. Do you think I should stop marking my wrappers "Unsearched" because of this?

I'm leaning towards yes since if it truly were unsearched, that coin would've been found by someone else, but I at least appreciate your honesty and concern on the matter. It shows good character qualities.

FWIW - I don't sell them. I just turn them into the bank.

could you explain your reasoning for this?

So, let me pose this question. If I go ahead and wrap the nickels that I currently have in the jar (not the dimes) and do not mark the roll(s) "Unsearched", can I resume marking the nickel rolls "Unsearched" on the next go-round? I really hate to take the fun out of it for someone else.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

so do you make sure that they are unsearched so that someone else can enjoy?

Given that you did not specifically search them you can continue to claim that they are unsearched.

That is the intent, but I have no way of knowing if any of the bank tellers have "special" customers for them. I never ask.

I guess not, but I am surprised you take so much time out of your day to go through all that trouble wrapping change up. What I do is just gradually spend my change so as to get rid of it.

"To Be Or Not To Be" such a ponderous question of which the implications to society would become overwhelming. ;)

I'm retired living on Social Insecurity, so I don't get to go out too often.

Yes, if every coin in that roll is unsearched, I believe the roll to be unsearched. I'll be honest though, if I read "unsearched" on a wrapper, I'm not sure what I should make of it. I'd assume it came from a coin collector and then I would doubt the coin was unsearched. :p

I would much rather "Be" but the Powerball has never been that generous.

You may have a valid point, but let me ask you this. How many customer-wrapped rolls marked "Unsearched" have you ever gotten at a bank?
