    It is a shilling. Austria has schillings.

    British Empire coins with holes in the middle were typically issued for countries where people often did not wear clothes, certainly not clothes with pockets, so the money was designed to be carried round threaded on a string.

    I also see William the IV there, and George V, probably a Canadian coin and a worn out Queen Elizabeth and Lady Liberty.

    I think the New Guinea coin has the most intrinsic interest, and it may have found its way to America in the pocket of a WWII soldier.
