In the past few days I bought a Domitian after seeing the new arrivals in one of my dealer's inventory and falling in love with the dark toning. Interestingly enough, the reverse featured Minerva in a rostra with an owl at her feet, and shield and spear in hands. Then I decided to jump on a Roman Republic coin that had been vexing me for several months, and as it turns out, it also featured Minerva on the reverse, this time ridding a quadriga. I didn't get it because of Minerva though, the expression on Apollo's face is what had be so captivated with this coin, despite the millions of excuses I made not to get it over the last few months. Today another dealer let me know he got in a coin of an Emperor I had been looking to get for quite a while, and would you guess it also had Minerva on the reverse? LOL I didn't plan it this way at all, but funny how I went on a Minerva shopping spree without meaning to. I guess it's true what they say, good things come in threes. Anyway, here is my new Geta. Seller will have better pictures for me tomorrow as these are not that sharp.
Whoa-whoa-whoa ...... wait ... I thought you and Noob were gonna collect those Parthian thingies?! Oh great!! => now it's a coin-free-for-all again!! => awesome, I like it, lawyer That's a sweet new OP-score (congrats on batting-out homer after homer, after homer, after homer!!) => yup, you're definitely one of the leading candidates for coin-work-horse of 2016!!
Don't you worry, I have several bids on ancient Indian coins in a few upcoming auctions. Just simply making up for neglecting Roman coins for the last 2 months. I think this is coin# 54 for me in the last year. LOL
Yep, good things do come in threes @Sallent ....Great group and I love your latest of Geta!! I just scored a few from the VAuctions that ended today....but not three of the same deity, although two of the coins have multiple personalities on them, with more targets on bid elsewhere LOL...... Yep, somehow I ended up on a buying/bidding binge that featured more than two 'portraits' and with the usual two and even one with four.
nice group sallent...parthian, roman, i dig it all.....i'm all about some coin diversity! and nice new geta...here's my little geta from a few months back...
Nice coin & portrait. Just share the young head. Geta (209 - 211 A.D.) AR Denarius O: L SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES, draped bust right. R: FELICITAS TEMPOR, Felicitas standing left holding caduceus and cornucopia. Laodicea, 198 - 200 A.D. 2.7g 18mm RIC IV 95, RSC III 44, BMCRE V 144
Great coin. I've always liked this issue for being one of those with a reverse legend unique to the ruler.
Yes, actually naming Minerva. There is another legend that goes with Minerva on the coins of Geta, PONTIF COS - that's the common one. In my experience, I would say that for every MINERV SANCT variety there are ten of the others.
Very nice coin Sallent! I always liked the Minerva theme! I have an Imperial Geta and a Republican Geta... Roman Imperial Geta 209-211 CE AR Denarius On horse spearing enemy Roman Republic C. Hosidius C.f. Geta. AR Denarius 68 BCE Obv: GETA – III·VIR Diademed and draped bust of Diana r., with bow and quiver over shoulder. Rev: Boar r. wounded by spear and attacked by hound; in ex, C·HOSIDI C F. Ref: B. Hosidia 1. Sydenham 903. Crawford 407/2. Sear 346
Nice Geta with good shield detail! The more ribs, the better. However, the legends on the outdoor show seem a little easier to read. What can you change on your indoor shot to improve that?
