Now that would definitely revive the coin club...but might make widower's of some of the old guy's wives. LOL.

Havent attended a club meeting as of yet. Might try the Houston one. Did go to my first show. It was in Bellaire and in a room way to small. Heard a number of attendees say never would they attend that particular location again. Mostly old men. Told my sister good place to look for a husband. Only a hand full of women and money money everywhere. Next month is Beamont and because of the drive My husband says he will drive me. Took my grandson and a nice dealer gave him a lovely merc. I had made a purchase but it was nice. I'd like for my grandchildren to be interested. Thought there was a gift for all entering children but guess not. Bought a few coins and paid fair prices and would have bought more but it's hard to look when constantly being bumped.

are you able to give location and time of DFW coin clubs close to south east Dallas county. I got word of one that meets i downtown Dallas but the heat keeps me out of down town. John D

They're all listed on coinzip.com, but here's what I know (nothing south)

1st Thursday of the month - Ft Worth Coin Club meets at the Botanic Garden
2nd Thursday of the month - NETCC (Northeast Tarrant Coin Club) meets in the mid-cities off Cheek Sparger Road
3rd Thursday of the month - Dallas CC meets at a Mexican restaurant on Skillman St (that's probably the one you are thinking of)
3rd Thursday of the month - Colin County CC meets at a Mexican restaurant up in Colin county.

Dallas & Colin county have some joint meetings in Plano, which I don't know about (yet)

The meetings start at 7pm, with (for those at restaurants) members meeting for a buy-your-own dinner at 6pm

bigjpst, I think you and illini420 were the ones I spoke with up at the ANA in Anaheim. I am the brand new president of a withering coin club farther down in SoCal. Just like Jason who started the thread, I knew from the first time I attended last November I needed to do something. If it wasn't you at the ANA then thank whoever it was I talked to, way more time was spent answering questions then I ever expected and the revival of the Glendale club is very inspiring to me. My first meeting as president went well and they seemed to embrace my vision of moving the 50's style of the club meeting more into the 21st century. Your advice was excellent but my 18 year old daughter may have you beat with her reply to my question of, "How do I get teenage boys to want to attend a coin club meeting?" Her response was very matter of fact, "Simple, all you need is food and teenage girls!"

Careful, Jason, that's my home state you're denigrating!

And aside from my neighbor couple who met at, and graduated from, Texas Tech, I've never heard of anyone longing to return to Lubbock.

Joking aside, if you're in the Tulsa or OKC metros, I'd expect you to find reasonably viable coin clubs. Growing up in Tulsa, coin collecting seemed to be really popular in the area and there are still several good coin shops I try to visit whenever I'm back home.

On the other hand, if you're in one of the smaller, more isolated cities like Lawton, Enid, Muskogee, etc., then yeah, I suspect the coin club scene would be pretty bleak.

Good for you for deciding to try to make a difference, rather than just walking away.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

I am a member of another "Mac Daddy" club regarding medals. We just issued our 51st consecutive annual medal and we're rolling around ideas for #52. Red Rose of Lancaster, PA.

I see a takeover in that coin club's future. A much needed takeover. Do your worst and best!

Sadly, I had a similar experience at a local coin club, but a takeover wasn't in the cards. I joined on the night of the annual elections and the competition was tight for every office. What bothered me, and still bothered me, is that they really weren't welcoming to newcomers. After 10 minutes I could tell the club contained a few deep, impenetrable cliques. They seemed to run everything. People seemed extremely uninterested in talking to me (perhaps it's me?) and I really didn't meet anyone or really even talk to anyone, despite my trying, after three visits. The presentations I saw were decent, but I may well as have been alone in a dark movie theater. Another newbie joined after me and had pretty much the same experience.

I didn't go again, unfortunately. It sure seemed like a good idea.
