I have been over at PCGS for a long time now and thought i would try a little experiment
On cross grading, im in the process of gathering 5 PCGS notes and will be sending them
In to PMG for grading, once i have all 5 i will post them here before sending them in
Most will be in the 67 and up variety.

heres a sneak peek of my last one that i did you ask what are the advantages
Of doing this well for one thing the populations are different and affect value
This particular note Series 681 25 Cent has a population of one at PMG so that
Would be much more valuable then being at PCGS where there are 4 in other
Words collectors would be willing to pay $100,s even $1,000 more for that
One and only note Unfortunately since this note is in a PCGS holder and in my private collection there are zero at PMG however i still have the original PMG
holder so i still have the value

i have one other one to show with the same above results, which for me is a good
Thing, many collectors i talk to are hesitant about cross grading notes thinking there
going to go down but again my experience has been so far very positive! i just sold
a very expensive note to a collector in a old style PCGS holder and he was concerned that it wasent going to be graded the same and this is from the same
Company PCGS that did the grading

I think PCGS holders are UGLY!!! Just my personal opinion.

Agreed, but they do the the job and there semi rigid compared to the new PMG holders which may be more eye appealing they are very flimsy the old ones they
    Used were much better

    2. Series 611 10 Cents (PCGS) 68PPQ (PMG) 67EPQ
    3. Series 661 10 Cents (PCGS) 68PPQ (PMG) 67EPQ

Actually those results are very disappointing :( however the Series 461 $5 was the
Most important in this group to me and it did grade out fine :)

The others did drop a full grade point and the Series 661 $1 dropped a full 2 Grade
Points but that was kind of expected being in a first generation holder all of those
were over graded so i kind of expected that

When you send them to PMG do you leave them in their PCGS holders or do you break them out and send them in raw? I'm just wondering whether the PCGS grading has an influence, good or bad, on the PMG grading. That would be another good test -- submit one in-holder and one raw that you already know the grade.

This time i submitted them all in the original PCGS holders, the next test will be
Blind and i will cut them out of the holders before submitting but i have learned
One important thing the first gen PCGS holders are not accurately graded at all
the 68,s in the Series 661,s $1 large holders are actually 66,s have found this
to be true on the Series 691 $20 notes as well, have first hand experiance on this

The graders do not open the mail and have no idea whether a note was sent in a TPG holder or what the previous grade was even if graded by the same company..
