What's your opinion on bringing back pre-33 coin denominations?

It's likely anyways, even if they don't mandate digital currency. I guarantee that 90 out of 100 people in office don't know about the laws of 1933, which means that they will likely repeat it.

I see what you mean there. I think it's a shame, though, that the government wants to track every cent you see, nonetheless all the silver and gold coins one may have.

This guy is okay in my book, I don't care what they say. :D He saved coin collecting.

In a way, I see what you mean, as taking the U.S. off the gold standard opened the doors for trading bullion freely.

You couldn't have said it any better. And a lot of people actually believe that they know the effect of micromanaging the country.

Based on previous government confiscation only covered GOLD bullion numismatic peices were exempt, if you are worried at
all about that a good alternative would be
common date saints w/ no premiums you
are very close to the sand result.

If I could get a Saint Gaudens piece with no premium at all, I would actually eat grass for a week. Anyone who wouldn't take that has to be out of their right mind lol!

I'm not going to dispute or confirm what you say. You may be right, but when that 1933 Act was passed, a healthy portion of US Gold Coins were sent to Europe, and mainly Switzerland, to be stored overseas to avoid confiscation, fines, and jail time. I'll look into this later. I'm nowhere near that old.:D

He also opened up King Tut's Tombs, the Treasury Department's hoard of stored silver and gold coinage. Now depending on what you had collected prior to that, I can see where a lot of people were not happy about that. Rare coinage suddenly became way less rare. But it opened up a whole new world to collectors in the USA.

I had no idea that rare coins became much more common, but that's understandable. Did it affect coins like 1893-S Morgans or the big 3 Barber Quarters?

I am totally not a moderator, but want to caution y’all on the political lean this thread is taking. The bosses don’t stand for that. Hate to see anyone get dinged.

That's a good statement there. Hopefully, though, the paper money wear issue can be solved.

When money goes away and it all becomes digital hold would also be banned. Just like it was during the Great Depression.

Unfortunately there is no silver in my proposed coins, but even if there was, it wouldn't be worth buying currently. I am a firm believer, though, that silver will one day reach $100/ounce, so one day a 90% silver double eagle coin with 9 grams of silver could be worth over $30! :)

It's inevitable, i think. When $1 buys what $10 used to larger denomination coins make more sense. And it's only going to get worse. I expect to see the cent and nickel disappear, and $5 and $10 coins join those remaining in my lifetime.

I do agree, inflation is getting quite high. I would hate to see either the cent or the nickel done away with, as many modern proof coins we get in 69s consist partly of those two. In all honesty, dollar coins have failed because the government gave people a choice between bills and coins; if you do like Canada did, and take away the dollar bills, coins would circulate way better. I mean, we could easily bring back the Liberty Head gold dollar lol!
