Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by willard t frye, Sep 10, 2016.

  1. I have a 1988 Lincoln memorial cent which has been either struck thru grease or has many die scratches. there is also a raised ridge from Lincoln's shoulder to between IN and God. Please place your expert opinions. See pics..... img031.jpg img033.jpg PICT0012.JPG PICT0013.JPG PICT0014.JPG PICT0015.JPG PICT0016.JPG PICT0017.JPG View attachment 535901 PICT0019.JPG

Just scratches from when they "polished" the dies - very common on plated zinc Lincoln cents.
Is that a die chip (piece of raised metal) between the first 2 left pillars or just damage showing the zinc planchet?

Possible die crack above the FG on reverse?

I have a few of these Zincolns, I always have wondered what these should grade. Some of them the fields, and areas not in high relief, look almost untouched as far as wear.

The die scratches shouldn't affect the technical grade because they're a stage in the minting of the coin but if they're eye-unappealing enough they'll affect the monkey I mean money I mean market yeah that's it grade.

    Pickin and Grinin likes this.
  9. Just junk. Disappeared with a sweep of the brush.

  10. Looked for it under 20x mag and could not find. Most likely junk again .

  11. I have been reviewing struck thru grease coins and die scratches pics on Google image . They look so similar how do you tell apart?
