Picked this specimen up yesterday and trying to determine have it graded or flip it raw. I paid slightly over MS-64 money for the color and luster. Yes the reverse is killer full cartwheel luster, great details, clean fields . Nice rim tone , obv. A hit on her chin,in both right and left fields slight surface scratches no bag marks except on her chin. I believe that I got the Vam correct at a 27A
    Would she go 64,64+ or 65? @ 65 plus grading thinking I be close to par value. 20160909_151933.jpg 20160909_133938.jpg 20160909_151915.jpg 20160909_133927.jpg

I'm at 63. I can see paying 64 money for such a pretty reverse.

Yea, those seem like pretty severe cheek gouges
63 w a possible bump up to 64 for eye appeal
Very nice coin BTW, I would send her to ANACS

    I'm thinking MS-62.
Too baggy particularly in one of the prime areas (cheek).

Agreed. You absolutely_must arrest this toning right now, though - a little more progress and it's not "pretty" any longer. Me, I'd have it in a Mylar flip with the open edge taped shut.

As regards the VAM, I'm unsure about 27A; I don't see the clashing artifacts which define it. Have a close look at UR on the obverse, and consider VAM-21.

I'm in the "63, maybe 64" camp. I think you'd be wasting money submitting it anywhere, including ANACS. The VAM means very little. There are thousands of VAM's worth no more than the typical numismatic value. The toning may have been nice at one time, but it is getting darker. I'd unload it now, and let the new owner decide what to do with it.

This came out of a older type set that had a cardboard backing There was an 1904 O as well as an 1922 Peace that he also had to offer the 23 peace was nice but saving for the Gettysburg show.

I do see a faint die crack running through the UR however there's a slight die clash under the eagle's neck sort of tooth like curve downwards. This is why I believed it to be a Vam 27 A as well as other pups on the coin

Well, you have the coin in-hand and I don't. :)

However, VAM-27/27A is a Far Date - this one is a Normal Date (almost Near) - and 27A has a prominent, low neck vee clash - this one doesn't - and hard clashing in the "secondary" areas on the reverse.

OTOH, VAM-21 has a rather unique crack at the R which I can see here, reaching the rim at the correct denticle, and the date is in the proper location.

63+...beautiful coin. Cheek damage offset by nice fields.... toning, strike are nice. An easy 65 if cheek was missing the 2 scratches.
