$33 buy-it now on eBay. El Cheapo would have been happier at $29, but it's a decent key date.

If you are looking for medieval coinage, there are some great bargains to be found by looking at medieval Indian coinage.

Three medieval silver coins for less than $75 total
Chalukyas of Gujarat AR Drachm, India (White).jpeg
    Chalukyas of Gujarat
    AR Drachm

ud Din Mubarak 4-Ghani Delhi Sultanate.jpeg

AR or high grade billon 4-Ghani

Shahi Kings of Kabul and Gandhara AR Jital.jpg

If you go European medieval, $75 will probably buy you a really beat up coin, not 3 nice ones. Got to love those Indian medieval bargains.

El PoorFool found this one for a pretty pleasant price of $190.50 and can't complain. :) The old gal has been cleaned, but the details are nice!

Antique shop find last weekend. 30 bucks! Looks like a solid AU to me. I'd say AU-58. Great deal for an 1886-S morgan.

A few days ago I shared some bargain Indian medieval silver coins you could buy.

Today I'll share some amazing and historically significant bargain ancient silver coins from India that are very budget friendly considering the historical significance behind them.

    Gandhara, Taxili AR Satamana.jpg
    Gandhara
    AR Satamana
    650 BCE - 600 BCE

This is the great grandaddy of all coins. This is perhaps the first coin ever made in the history of the world. It is at the very least tied with the Lydian stater, which was also minted at approximately the same time period, for the oldest coin in the world.

    * I paid $100, while regular retail price is around $150. If that still sounds like a lot, keep this in mind...the other coin that is tied for the title of first coin ever made, the Lydian stater, will set you back $1,500 or more. So this one is a huge bargain compared to the Lydian stater if you want to have one of the first (if not the first) coins ever made by man.

If the coin above is too much money but you still want to have one of the first coins in the history of the world, try this one:

Gandhara Janapada, AR Shana, or 18 Satamana.jpg
    Gandhara
    AR 1/8 Satamana
    Circa 600 BCE.

How cheap is this one? Try around $20, and for that you get a coin that was minted only about 50 years after the invention of coins. Wow! Isn't that amazing? 2,600+ years worth of numismatics history for like $20. If that doesn't get you excited then stick to slabbed bullion because there is no hope for you.

If none of the above suit your taste for ancient and historically significant, how about a coin that is linked to the aftermath of Alexander the Great's conquest of India?

MAURYA Series VIb Silver punchmarked karshapana #1.jpeg
MAURYA Series VIb Silver punchmarked karshapana #2.jpg Maurya Empire
Series VIb AR punch marked Karshapana
    Circa 250 BCE.

The Maurya Empire was born as a result of Alexander the Great's invasion of India. This empire sprang in the power vacuum left by Alexander's conquest of northern India, and the kings of this Empire fought the Indo-Greek kingdoms founded by Alexander's Macedonian generals, and dealt huge defeats to the Greeks in Northern India, especially the Seleucid kingdom.

All that history, and all those cool punch mark symbols, are available to you for the low price of $15 to $20. LOL.:wacky:
