I am trying to mail four (4) tokens. The total weight is 1.18 ounces. Trying to determine the least expensive way to send it. 1st Class Stamp: $0.47 This option is out due to the 1 ounce limit (unless the person changes their mind and only wants 3 of the tokens... then problem is solved... I think...) 1st Class "letter" Rate These rates would apply as long as the envelope is not too "rigid". Since that is a very subjective term, it kind of confuses me. The tokens are metal, and I'd probably want to sandwich them between two pieces of cardboard. USPS Postage Calculator: $0.89 Dude at Post Office: $1.50 - $1.75 (but once he found out they were metallic tokens, he seemed to think that they would be too rigid...) 1st Class "Parcel" Rate If the envelope is considered to be "too rigid", then "Parcel" rates would apply. But I can't get the USPS Postage Calculator to give me a price. The USPS dude this morning estimated that it would cost $2.50 - $2.75.
First class envelope is not limited to one ounce. For a two ounce envelope, the postage is 68 cents. An easy postage chart can be found here: http://www.nerdylorrin.net/jerry/postages/
Cut up a cereal box to get two pieces of stiffer paper / thin cardboard that fits in an envelope, and use that for the sandwich. I get stiffer paper mailer inserts that people discard at the post office all the time, and mail from Canada to the USA that way. Been doing it for 15 years (eBay seller). Disguises contents very nicely.
