I just won an auction for a 1943 Walking Liberty Half dollar. The seller is crazy enough to claim he thinks it is a MS69 or better. Yeah, right! I'll be thrilled if it only turns out to be a MS64. Oh well, he claims this is the nicest one he's ever listed and he's offering a money back guarantee. I guess I'll risk it and wait to see what I get. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130130597190&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=003
post a picture once you receive it - i'm curious what a better picture will show - it looks like an AU-58 to me. at $18.00, it's a nice coin regardless. -steve
I hate to say it, but where's the luster??? It looks cleaned to me. Especially the way the toning "is" between 2 and 3 o'clock on the coin. (did that sound kinda harsh?) Hope it's just a bad pic, cuz man I love those old halves! In fact, between Walking Libertys and Peace Dollars, and Standing Libs, and Buffalos, I could just stare at coins all day and call it art! *sigh*
they ARE art. simply beautiful coins in AU or better. (this does threat to have been cleaned ) -steve
I was thinking the same but I'm hoping that it is just the result of the camera flash or external light reflecting off the coin's surface which is making it appear possibly cleaned. As long as the coin has well struck, unworn details on the breast of the eagle I will probably not be disappointed. I did not really expect this coin to be Gem Uncirculated when I bid on it. I'm just hoping for MS63 or better.
I just noticed that another supposedly high grade uncirculated Walking Liberty from the same seller just sold for quite a bit more than the one I won yesterday. Also, this coin is not graded by the seller as high as mine. Hmm, should be interesting to see what I get in the mail next week. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEDW:IT&viewitem=&item=130130911747&rd=1&rd=1
bad pic To bad the pic is so bright. I'm going to guess an over dipped unc, but it is too hard to tell if thats friction on the breast and sun. Let us see a good pic when you get it.
I received this coin in my mailbox this afternoon. That was damn quick shipping by the seller. I paid for this coin Thursday morning and received it on Saturday. It definately looks uncirculated to me. All the breast feathers on the eagle and lines in Liberty's dress are visible and I can see no sign of wear on them. There is some slight toning around the outer edge of the coin but nothing that detracts from the coins overall appearance. I cannot tell if the coin has been cleaned or not but it does look nice and shiny! For $21.99 delivered I'm pleased! I wonder where this seller is getting so many of these nice, mint state Walkers from that he is able to sell them so cheaply? I will try to take some photos tomorrow.
Glad it worked out for you! The pictures had too much glare for my tastes - but coin appeared to be uncirculated. Then again I probably miss some good cheap coins because I skip auctions like this. Nice coin and good find. Post some of your own pictures.
Here are the pics I took this morning. Photoshop is hosting them and you will have to click on them to view in larger size.
For your sake I hope it is the pictures, but based on them the coin appears to have been harshly cleaned and polished.
Well I think your pictures are better than the auction pictures. I can it what looks like a flat color from maybe dipping, but I don't see the polish. At least nothing like my 1844 quarter - crap I can comb my hair(whats left of it) in that puppy. As long as you are happy then that is all that matters. And if you aren't happy I can always provide a good home for it.
