How Many of You Coin Roll Hunters purchase silver too?

I've noticed that the junk silver coins sell for the highest premium over spot than any other form of bullion. I believe it is due to demand, and recognition. If you are buying bullion bars from a private source, you are most likely going to want to test the merchandise for purity. However, it is common knowledge that pre-1964 US coinage is made of 90% silver. Testing isn't required. Please correct me if anyone has conflicting information.

1oz Rounds and 10oz bars rarely get tested in all of my transactions. They are too small for counterfeiters to go after and are pretty easy to identify if they are counterfeits. They are safe bets to go after and trade very easily. They are on par as far as liquidity with 90% silver US coins. Of course this has been my experience, if anyone else has a different one please chime in.

I agree that you have to buy silver but at the right price so you can dollar cost average your investment. What I get in the rolls is basically free and I only pay melt (or less) for 90% junk silver. I just got a delivery yesterday, only about 10 ounces but my cost was 11.5 X face when melt is 14 X. Don't worry about buying low and selling high; when you can buy high and sell higher.

    Happy Hunting!

It's amazing what one can get on Craigslist. I know, I know, there are people who will speak of horror stories, but I have done quite well on that sight. Some people price it low and other I negotiate with.

Don't you love what CRH silver does to your dollar cost averaging? It's saved my but so I am a few hundred bucks up rather than breaking even this year.

I just grabbed about 29 1/2 ounces worth of silver at my dealer (14.5x face). The "junk" boxes had some real quality stuff... Pulled an 18-S and a 27-D Standing Liberty Quarter along with a couple of 32-P Quarters, 11 Pre-40 mintmarked Quarters, a 15-S Barber Dime, and several AU+ 1949 Philly Dimes. Also got a nice little batch of problem-free War Nickels which included 6 43-Ds...

I purchased about $500.00 in Quarters that last two months. Done buying silver for a long time. Especially where it's been at. $18.86 and dropping. I want to get my silver from CRH to get my average cost per oz down. It's at $16.70 and my goal is to get it to $14.00 by the end of the year. The only way I can do that is stop buying and get to hunting as many halves as possible.

Well, when I buy my silver, I'm very selective. I'm not buying a bunch of 1964 dated coins... most of what I buy has numismatic value which is well over what the price of silver is. When you're finding coins worth 2-5 times spot price and paying 14.5x face, you're already way ahead. Sometimes I'll go in and not buy much at all. It's much more dependent on the coins I find in the boxes than the actual price of silver.
