Ahhhh... that's it ! That explains a lot of things.

They're grading on a 100-point scale... so a 66 is really XF.

No, I've never heard of them. There are so many different grading companies out there these days that it seems all you need is a new acronym to get started in the business. Perhaps we need an agency to regulate and license coin grading services.

Never heard of NAC, another newbie service, probably self-grading for sale.

    SGS - 'Scumburger 'Grading' 'Service'.

No SGS slabs here. But I would value an SGS slab just as much as I would any of the others - meaningless to me. I, and a majority of exonumia collectors would not be at all upset if all of the slabers avoided our niche of the hobby like the plague.

Cwtokenman,I just stick to raw coins.Eventually,I will put my own coins into flips, then that way,I can have a detailed description of what the coins are, including dates & mintmarks.

I have to plead guilty. I bought 3 ASE a few years ago. I was new to internet buying. No excuses, just got greedy . I purchased the ASE,s for around $12 to $15 for MS70's. Not that bad considering the prices have climbed, so I think I broke even. I honestly did not know about this scam until I started coming to your forums. I have learned much since then. What really bothers me is this scum grading service is making a killing on E-bay selling the 2006 ASE's. I feel like sending them questions about the coins, but think it would be ignored and not posted on auctions. i feel sorry for the buyers at those preimium prices.

That is certainly my preference Aidan, but there are times when I must consider purchasing a slab, essentially for the same reasons that I purchase problem tokens.

Cwtokenman,I suppose that you find the odd rare token that has been holed. If I see a holed coin,I usually don't buy it,unless I know it is genuine,& I know it is a rare one.

I have no slabbed coins at all. At coin shows, where I usually buy coins, I tell dealers I will not pay extra for a coin due to it being slabbed so either break it out and charge me for a raw coin or just charge for a raw coin and I'll break it out. I refuse to pay for someone else's coin being slabbed.

I would never touch or purchase anything labeled SGS (Suckass Grading Scoundrels) for principal alone.:)

There should be no additional charge for a slab, unless you request the dealer to do it for you.
Otherwise, they are just b.s.'ing you.
I have never paid additional for a pre-slabbed coin, I couldn't care less.
