Help with errors and varietys

Ok, with all this roll searching, I have just bought the Cherrypickers guide, and want to get a microscope. What is recommended by all you experts? Ebay or science store or what?

I have used a 20x loupe and that satisfies my needs... There is a microscope called the QX5 by Digital Blue that I have used that is great for looking at and photographing errors. It runs off a USB port on your computer and allows you to view coins with ease. They are on ebay for about $80 ... Hope this helps.

Try the Digital Blue.
Sold as a kids toy, it is reasonable, and you view the coins thru your computer screen.
I have found a number of valuable varieties with the unit.
You can photograph (well save pictures anyway) and e-mail them, print, etc.
Great reasonable piece.

 

I suggest a stereoscope instead of a microscope.

 

Frank- out of curiousity, what varieties have you found? Just one denomination or multiple ones?

Well some of them are:
3 (pieces) of the Flying Eagle 1858/7
1- (believe it or not) 1909 S VDB, purchased as a 1909 S.
#3 1943/2 Jefferson nickels.
#1- 1945 P Jefferson, DDR
#5 1939 Double Die reverses Jefferson
1946 D/ horizontal D -- Jefferson
1935 Buffalo: Double die reverse
" 5 Leg Buffalo

My favorite: 1942/1 D-- now in an NGC holder as EF-45.

Plus many others.

Also, many unlisted Barber dime and quarter repunched mint marks, now listed in the Barber guides, and/or in the Barber Coin Collectors publication.
Including: 1909 S, inverted mint mark, half dollar, in Coin World, and now (without credit) in Cherrypickers Guide.)
