    The most I have ever spent on an ancient coin is 3475 EUR (which is 3756 USD), and that ancient coin is the Sassanid gold Dinar of Shapur II from 320:

    As I was putting together a collection of "all Roman emperors," a Gordian II denarius turned out to be the most expensive.

    Thank you:), the only way I can realistically see myself paying more for an ancient coin is if a 5th century BCE Athenian silver tetradrachm in really top condition becomes available.
