The legend on this coin is Greek, but the design is totally different especially with regards to the Emperor's face and headdress. I can read maybe Hellenic, Epiphanou, Eurget and Basileus. Man, however it's no Greek, I believe. It weighs 13.28 g. Please type your opinion. Thanks.. Greppis O 001.jpg Greppin R 001.jpg

The inscription on the left reads
    ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥ
    ΦΙΛΕΛΛΗΝ(...)

    on the right it reads
    illegible
    ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤ(...)

On the bottom it reads (upside down)
    ΔΙΚΑΙΟΥ(...)

At the top, it looks like
    ΒΑΣΙΛΛΕ(...)

    Hope this helps.

My guess is Orodes II Sellwood 48.1 Seleucia

That's my guess too although I stopped browsing parthia.com after seeing Sellwood 48.

Sellwood is a really cool book worth owning if you have any interest in Parthian. It is reproduced hand written calligraphy - not type set.

Looking at this a bit closer I see what I consider several incorrectly identified coins claiming Sellwood 48.1 but clearly having a letter under the victory which would be 48.2 or 48.3. This coin is nice in having a clear space under the bottom line of legend so you can see that there is no lettering in exergue which would indicate Sellwood 48.4 or 48.5. You have a bit unusual placement of the Royal Wart right on the edge of the forehead compared to most online which have a bit of space there. I am nowhere near into Parthian to the point that I know why the warts wander like they do. Neither am I clear on which ones were biological and which were glue on.

This is not my picture or hand but one from a copy on sale. It is the original 1971 edition while mine is 1980 2nd with a white dj. I do not know the difference. Sellwood died in 2012 and his coins were sold at auction. I am surprised we are not seeing more listings of them for resale.

I'm pleased to be able to say that thirteen of those Ex-Sellwood Collection coins are currently in my collection.

    Nice Orodes II tet, 7Calbrey!

Quite, Sellwood had a fantastic collection. The first part was sold at Baldwin's in 2014. An Orodes II tetradrachm not unlike 7Calbrey's is in lot # 1099. If you are interested in Parthian coins, this is a catalog you should keep.
And you can easily find the other parts of his Parthian collection on the internet, too. Well worth the trouble.

Funny you should mention this, Pellinore. I am stewarding the two coins from lot #1099 for now. The first two here are from lot #1099. The first is a Sellwood 48.1 and the second a Sellwood 47.4 variant.

I am also showing another Orodes II tet of mine (the third coin), but this one is a 46.5-6 variant and is not an ex-Sellwood. normal_Sellwood_48_1_Orodes_II_tetradrachm.jpg normal_Sellwood_47_4v_Orodes_II_tetradrachm.jpg normal_Sellwood_46_5-6v_Orodes_II_tetradrachm.jpg
