He was 17 when this coin was minted, quite a suave haircut. Providentia holding rod and sceptre, sear 7197, 3.4gm Rome 206 AD.
So no Geta here but how about a junior Caesar who was struck down before he really had a chance? Crispus, AD 317 - 326 AE, follis, 3.01g, 19mm; 6h; Aquileia mint Obv.: CRISPVS NOB CAES; laureate, cuirassed bust right Rev.: CAESARVM NOSTRORVM, VOT / (dot) / V in laurel wreath In Ex.: (dot) A[Q]S (dot) Zosimus writes that Crispus was killed for an improper relationship between him and his stepmother by Constantine, his dad. I'm traveling so no references, but I've read a pretty compelling argument that essentially Constantine's wife was conspiring to have Crispus eliminated so her son's would inherit the empire. Constantine believed the conspiracy, executed Crispus and exiled another. Constantine would learn later that it was the political intrigues of Fausta and had her executed.
@chrsmat71 , Thats Geta cleaning up his room. Caracalla didn't last long after the murder on his 23 year old brother.
Here is a provincial Geta from Antioch in Pisidia. I am relying on the seller's attribution for this one as I don't have any Roman provincial references and this one seems a bit obscure. Laureate draped cuirassed bust right L SEPTIMO GETA / Sickly looking eagle facing, head left with wreath in beak ANTIOCH COLON 2.59g 17mm Krzyzanowska VI/6 (never heard of this one) The style of the eagle seems a lot like the later Claudius Gothicus coins
Warren Esty has a neat little article on Geta's portraits over the years as he grew up: http://esty.ancients.info/Geta/ And Bill Welch has an even more detailed examination of portraits of both Caracalla and Geta over time: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/moonmoth/family_coins.html
Wow, thanks for the two cool thread-links ... I've already showed my young Geta example, but after looking at those links I figured that I'd show my two examples of the young brothers ... "young" Caracalla "young" Geta => OMG, it's like watching a bad horror flick ... I feel like yelling at the screen and warning young Geta!!
You can create an interesting series of Geta as he matures and his beard cuts in.... I used to collect these but have parted with most of them now.
