Thanks! I think about coins all day when I am cutting grass/trimming hedges/weeding flowerbeds/blowing leaves....even sometimes have dreams of finding a treasure hoard (unfortunately that one nevers comes true) I am really glad that the ancient Lydians invented coins!

 

That's what I like about you P'man, you literally sweat and bleed for your coins. I have a bureaucratic job and the only sweating I do is for the X-country team at university.

@panzerman WTH. Are you retired or a landscaper? Some years back I owned a small landscaping business. There was no way in hell I could've budgeted in a coin like that then. Of course were in different geographical locations but still.

Nope, I am NOT retired, at least not for next decade. Working presently 90+ hours a week. Rather work hard, play hard. Plus lawncare is easy work, no stress, just easy way to make $, then add coins to collection. Yeah, I had to work a three weeks to get the Oktodrachm!!!!

 

You must have no other debts or expenses. Even so, it's hard to imagine being able to frequently purchase expensive coins with money earned solely from lawncare! (In other words, where did I go wrong in life )

 

WOW!! That's about as perfect a coin as I've ever seen and in gold!!

Awe-inspiring! I had the opportunity to hold one of these Ptolemaic oktodrachms at a coin show once... they certainly have a nice heft. I'm inclined to use the term 'pondskipper', but the very thought seems ludicrous.

That little Okto is almost a full Troy Ounce... What a wonderful weight of gold in the palm of your hand. I always enjoy that feel of Gold!

 

Thanks everyone! Just got home from long day of hedge trimming....
Had a wee accident today, I was trimming a 14 ft. cedar hedge, while trying to trim the top of the hedge (8 ft. wide) I reached a bit too far and fell off the ladder into the middle of the hedge, breaking a few branches on my way down. I ended up on my back, hit my nose on a branch, causing a massive nose bleed....not a good day!

Actually the Oktodrachms in "FDC" are way cheaper then any Roman Aurei, again there are hundreds of these in auctions esp. Arsinoe II....seems most are high quality. These were definately minted for the "bigshots" at that time. The Dekadrachms are mucho $$$$$$$.
