Athenian Owl/ seem to be millions avaliable/ still go for crazy high prices! Why? I have no answer. Please post your coins that fit that category.....
Something like 40,000 uncirculated pieces came into the market a few years ago and prices went UP. Hahahahahahahaha.
Yeah, I agree, it's still a beautiful coin, but it's too bad they are not priced like Gordian III Ants. Another over hyped/priced coin....."Tribute Pennies". Mine only went cheap because it's a very rare error and I guess not many wanted something this special, even Curtis Clay said errors from this era are rare. Tiberius (14 37 A.D.) @panzerman, very nice one you are showing in your OP. Athena's helmet crest can be really appreciated. Don't know for much it was sold, but from what you are saying, the price must have been steep... Mine doesn't have a nice crest :-( Tetradrachm, Attica, Athens, ca. 454 – 404 BC (447 to 413 BC according to Sear) 25 mm, 17.097 g Kroll 8; SNG Copenhagen 31; SNG München 49; Dewing 1611-22; Gulbenkian 519-21; BMC Attica p7, 48; HGC 4, 1597; SGCV 2526; Ob.: Head of Athena to r., wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and spiral palmette. I think the bronze portrait coins of Cleopatra VII are over-priced. How's this for a bargain at $1,000?
JC's coins tend to be overpriced too nowadays, in my opinion. I Paid about 340 euros for mine about 12 years ago, and I thought that was fair.
