Back again to this EL coins from Borysthenes (island Berezan'), now available at CNG 103 auction Lot 91, 92. I want to add to CNG description of this coins, that back to 1975, at Berezan' was founded a hoard with the same type stater and 3 trites together with broken jeweleries. This is a well documented find and there are no any doubts about autenticity of this types of electrum coins. This coins from CNG without doubts geniune. There are a lot of buzz about a great find from 2001, but this find not documented by scholars. Only buzz for about near 50 pieces of this type staters and lot of trites in this hoard from one source of information, at another information about 57 pieces of coins - together staters with trites. Exactly, who knows?...
That reminds me ... Somehow I forgot to post my cool lil' example ... LESBOS, Mytilene. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater Circa 478-455 BC Diameter: 10 mm Weight: 2.48 grams Obverse: Ram’s head right Reverse: Incuse bull’s head right Reference: Bodenstedt Em. 27; HGC 6, 954
Ivan, just started reading your books. I do not have any electrum coins yet, but have wanted one for quite some time. They look great! Lots of awesome info!
Electrum coins absolutely amazing. It's a different world ... But in practical terms, the preservation of these coins and gold, much better than silver, copper, bronze. Moreover, they are often composed of large hoards. Once, I was holding a handful of cyzicenes (full staters, not fractions) from one hoard - it seems impossible to compare with anything this feeling of magic ancient treasure. In this case, there is a real opportunity to see ancient coin in the mint state condition. Once you'll take into arms a such coin - you'll not want anything another. But prices terrible...
Sweet coins, everyone. I would love to have an electrum coin. They are so cool! ........Someday. Erin
I have an information, that this two EL coins originate from Berezan' from CNG 103 was Clio'ed. I think after that I can stop to dream even about trite... (Joke) I am almost at the end of research about this coins, and I hope it'll be Vol. 4 of my L&B Library.
