Got this little number in change the other day. Rare when one finds a $2. bill anymore, and a star note to boot. It's crisp, but a bit damaged. The site to look up rarity of star notes only goes back to '77, and (sigh) this one's a '76. Anybody know if it's worth anything? It is rare? Thanks in advance for your help.
StartingOut,that may be stained, but it is also a low number as well as a replacement note. This would be worth a lot more than its face value of US$2 though. Any banknote that has a serial number below 10000 is classified as being a low number. Aidan.
Spock. Here's a link to the site for you to look up the bills. As I mentioned, it only goes back to '77. http://www.geocities.com/stealth_cob...rs/lookup.html
It is definitely worth hanging on to.Don't you dare spend it,otherwise you would be kicking yourself. Aidan.
acording to this site http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f1976_b.html the BEP made 1,920,000 million of the L* block. That site also mentions the BEP wasn't that clear with it's records during this time frame. That many notes were sold to collectors in uncut sheet form and didn't make it to the records. Still, I'd keep it.
I thought it was kind of interesting to find. Guess I'll put it away somewhere for my grandchildren. Thanks for the replies.
i've never heard of anyone getting a $2 bill in change. thats a pretty nice note! i would DEFINALTY keep it!:hail:
Once in a while i'll spend one just to see how people react. I have a TON of $2, all circulation grabs. I keep the 1976's, but pick and choose the 95's and newer. I keep the mint ones and occasionally spend some of the tattered ones. EVeryone thinks $2's are rare or something, but you can go to any bank and get a stack of them. They are as rare as half dollars...nobody uses them so they sit around unwanted
sadly. I paid my manager with a 2 dollar bill. He owed me some money, so i gave him 3 ones and a 2, he's like "you really want to use that?" i said "they print them every year" I still have another 2 dollar bill and 2 half dollars ready for circulation
Magman,I suppose that these 2 $1/2 coins & the $2 note aren't in great shape, which is why you are spending them. Aidan.
actually the 2$ note is in fantastic shape. its a 1995 series though, and I already have some older ones (1976, 1963, 1928). the 2 half dollars are pretty poor, they're a 1971, and 1972. I saved all the Pre 1970 half dollars, and when I found these, i realized, "hey, they're only worth 50c, so why not spend them?"
Have to admit I haven't seen one in circulation in a long time now. It was a teenager at a local 7-11 shop who gave it to me. I think he just wanted to get it out of his register. And, from all the reaction here, I guess I'll put it somewhere safe and hold on to it.
i don't undestand why people think half dollars and golden dollars and $2 bills are rare. like the above post says, you can get all those at banks.it just bugs me to death when people say keep half dollars and $2 bills.:vanish:
yeah i know. today i went out to eat, and I left a 2 dollar bill, two ones, and a half dollar. :hail: as tip
