2002 ‘Large’ Cent

    Found this thing in pocket change. Any idea how something like this can happen? I assume PMD. If there is more to this than that, lemme know. Thanks!

    Yep... Texas cent.... Take a cent and lay it between a coupla pieces of leather and bang on it with a hammer. The layer of copper falls away and the cent grows in diameter with each successive strike.

    I think I could have heard of that before. The rim on this one still quite prominent, sharp even. I am surprised it was not smooshed down some during the beating.

    What’s the going rate on ebay for a ‘gem’ like this, $1K, $10K, $1M? :greedy::greedy::greedy:

    Very odd to have found so many in one place like that. Could there be a point to making a relatively large quantity of these like you found? Maybe they could pass, or were intended to pass, as nickels in a vending machine?

    I was thinking more along the lines of passing as nickels concealed in a roll of nickels.
