1907 High Relief $20

To minimize the offense to PCGS advocates, I'll politely suggest it's another "Gimmick". I believe it's just a standard "business strike" MS61-MS65 1907 Double Eagle, that someone has gotten to have a special slab produced. A 1907 MS61 graded PCGS double eagle, from my experience would probably definitely be a "Rough Rider"

You'll note there aren't any prices that I could see in the advertisement for the MS65 coin.

Thank you. So a St gaudens is a St gaudens. What I paid was $1800 for PCGS MS62 coin, WITH A STORY. Of well, about $300 over market. Yikes.

 

In fairness to you, I believe it should be shown that in the 1st year of the St. Gaudens production, there were multiple versions of the coin produced, some as Hi Relief wire rim, flat rim. without motto, etc., all with relatively (i.e. to future strikes) limited production. All versions generally command a "premium".

I believe you'll find it contains multiple nicks, gouges, and multiple scratches which were sworn by PCGS in the PCI legal action court proceedings to be unacceptable criteria for a grade. This "rough" coin is being offered at an approximate $1700 price.

Your $1800 purchase price of a higher grade/condition with new unique slab may constitute reasonable/great value, considering the absolute amount of these coins which can/will be produced.

My lucky day finding you. Appreciate the knowledge. I am a novice. I've been at collecting for 2 years, and started with Morgans. I found Peace dollars quickly follow, then the gold coins found their way into my safe. Now I have 100s of old us coins of lower value beyond the silver and gold.

It funny, but the one coin I am most fascinated with is a civil war large penny with two holes crudely drilled through it. Research leads me to believe it was used as a button.

Very nice. Maybe someday... nah, I don't think I'll ever move in those circles. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate the view, though.

 

I think these are just a recent "find" in a specially-designed holder. MS61-65....bullion spot price plus 10-40% or so, depending on the grade.

Coins are basically a basic 1907 with Arabic numerals.

Am I missing anything ?

 

The pics weren't totally clear but it did NOT look like there was wear on the Liberty or Eagle high points.
