This post is getting very tiresome and ridiculous in nature. If you wanted as you say, "My post was intended as a suggestion to substantiate allegations, rather than possibly incite others who feel similarly compelled without a recommendation of restraint" then you should have started a separate post detailing in depth exactly what you wanted. From what I hear you want the CT forum members to come up with examples or facts of what the original poster asked. You didn't do that. You sound like you have a lot of resentment over a case I could care less about. And stating the maybe in your "HOOD" comment was childish and demeaning in nature (very unbecoming). Once again, I tell you it was my opinion if you don't like my answer then don't ask the question or simply move on to another topic. If you expect people, as a whole, to answer a question that falls into your parameter of acceptability then you are going to be sorely disappointed. Life doesn't work that way. If you knew that some of the defendants were on this venue, then you should have PM them about any concerns you may or may not have. Please do us both a favor and let's end this back and forth commentary as it is producing nothing. And no offense was realized as I believe you are mad at something or someone else other than me. JMHO. I wasted my 1,000 post on this commentary with a coin giveaway away contest to boot. Oh well.
I'm sorry that your sensibilities appear to lack an understanding of "social decorum", "civil discourse", "defamation of character", and legal ramifications. I'm not "mad" at anyone, just frustrated with the individual/worldly lack of "Civil Discourse", and respect for others. My posts may have been too complicated! I plead that you read, try to understand/absorb the simple message of a renown speaker, stated in Matthew 7:12 Enough Said! JMHO
I'll go with NNC and ACG as the worst .. they are both most noted as being the furtherest from the mark.
Unfortunately, with the nonstop ATing of coins, I fear that will become the rule with the oh-so slightest of doubt.
Based on what I've read this really sums up the PCI situation. Different results through different periods of time. Not everyone is aware of it so thank you for posting. This is why in my older/middle age I've wised up a little more and typically try to be sure to have all the facts straight before I toss my opinions around on a forum. I am slower to jump to conclusions in all facets. No matter what forum you're on, it's just a known that the group will keep you honest and call BS on you. Sometimes even make you look like a fool. Think defensively is a good protocol online. EDIT: FWIW, here is a link to a guy that actually had some Morgans in PCI slabs and submitted them to PCGS for cross-over. Results were what I would call "brutal." Says his neighbor lost between 13 and $14k from the over the phone scam (originaly paid) to what he could get now for them. http://news.coinupdate.com/crossover-reality-check-old-green-pci-holders-4898/
After the ACG litigation, I also sent numerous accurately graded ACG coins, in their original slabs, to NGC for a "cross-over" assessment. The coins were returned with a very "hostile" assessment note which has been retained. This was an exercise intended to show in the future that there was a subjective hostile bias. Forward a decade, and the coins have been removed from their slabs, and submitted to the 1st Tier TPG, by a volume "dealer" who witnessed notarized coin removal/submission. The coins have been returned without a one point variation, with one coin being returned having an ~$3000 increased value, which astonished the "dealer". Times have changed? JMHO
@VesI have heard (and your post supports this) never, Never, NEVER, NEVER, submit a PCI, SEGC, ICG, or ANACS graded coin to the top two grading services IN ITS ORIGINAL SLAB (unless you are one of their big-time customers). Think about it...Why should they cross a coin from one of those services and prove that it is as good as the coins they grade. Bad for business as often the less regarded services' coins are cheaper to purchase. I have seen plenty of "dogs" in NGC and PCGS holders that would not cross into even a "fly-by-night' slab. Actually, that's not true; they probably would.
Thanks for the tip insider. Its kinda funny that I just bought a PCI slabbed toner (for a fair price from someone here last night. I was considering sending it in to NGC. I'll be sure to crack it if I do and report back.
Wow no one brought up dominion grading service which was owned by David Lawrence. They were tough on grading. I still have a few by them, most I cracked out and received up grades from PCGS. The few I have aren't worth cracking out to re-grade. My favorite is shown below. DGS was formally known as PCI and are now out of business. http://www.coinlink.com/News/genera...-grading-service-dgs-to-discontinue-slabbing/
Wow, no one brought up dominion grading service which was owned by David Lawrence. Dominion was pretty good. Mike Ellis (former ANACS & ICG grader) was hired to help out. I have not seen any "junk" in their holders so far and I believe they are out of business.
I bought three coins in NNC slabs some time ago. All three were NNC MS65. Based on sellers pictures, I didn't expect much (maybe MS63-64, if not details), but bought them anyway (it's gamble time and yolo and so on). I cracked them out, was pleasently surprised, that there were no hairlines and sent the coins to NGC. And the results were - MS64, MS64 and MS65. Even they get correct sometimes. But only sometimes!
I'm not so sure. If you have never tried to crack an SEGS slab, trust us, they are a different beast than any other slab, like an indestructible tank. And remember, you gotta be able to extract the coin unharmed.
SEGS/smegs. Not bragging - just the facts. I've cracked every slab and every different type from every grading service from the old Robert Paul and Accugrade holders (Pre PCGS) up to 2002 using my method - hundreds. Only two coins rolled out (lucky (?) with no damage seen under the scope). I don't crack slabs anymore, others do it for me.
As above, I've heard (from someone else who has done it a lot) that the best way to crack a segs holder is vertically, on a concrete slab, using a hammer..... carefully. As to the PCI holders, someone just posted on the pcgs forum an 1875-cc 20c that crossed from pci gold to pcgs (ms 64). anecdotal, but there are some nice coins in those holders. The concern as always, is consistency.
