Hi all. I found this well circulated dime with a weird mouth. I think it's pretty cool and would like to know what you think is going on here. Is it doubled or a possible die clash? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
I know of a 1964 Hot Lips. It's actually Hub Doubled.. https://www.numismaticnews.net/world-coins/collector-discovers-hot-lips-1964-d-roosevelt-dime
On closer inspection, I don't think that's it. Sorry for the misleading first assumption. Welcome to CoinTalk by the way!
I am not saying they don't look cool. It's a neat coin. What I am seeing though, and this is compared to the 64D hot lips, is that the doubling takes away from the device instead of adding to it. I see this 67' above as a MD, or even Die Deterioration Doubling and not a Doubled Die. The evidence is also shown in the eye and brow. Here is the Wexler example. http://doubleddie.com/1312740.html
I thought it looked more like this 1955 S photo. That one didn't have the doubling on the nose or eyes. I will post the photo. Do you think it might be a clash of some sort?
I think that it hard to say without having the coin in hand. There is quite a few factors that come into play when the dies are deteriorating. Abrasion doubling comes to mind and that definitely could have been done to remove a clash.
