Here we go with part two of todays arivals, I have to say that I realy do like the work that has gone into these early notes, how many hours did someone spend engraving the plates for a note such as the Hungarian 1000 Pengo? Steve, you will actually find that the signature on the various islands' issues of the East Caribbean States actually says 'K. Dwight Venner'.You will find his biography on the East Caribbean Central Bank's website. He has been knighted, just like his predecessor was. It is very good that you are collecting British Commonwealth banknotes. Aidan.
Aidan thanks but I am not looking for the East Carib sig, that I know. What I am looking for is Cayman Islands 2006 $1 C Series Financial Secretary ? I know that the Managing Director is a Mrs. Cindy Scotland :smile but can not find out the other info, Hopefuly my new book will have it when it arrives from Malsyia :kewl: PS mainly only those with Lizzi on, but having said that I do have a 1942 Gibralta 10/- on the way
Steve,I have got one of the 2006 issue $1 notes from the Cayman Islands in my collection.I actually bought it off a dealer in Melbourne,Australia. It is good that you are getting a Gibraltarian 10/- for your collection,as any Gibraltarian banknote issued prior to 1975 is extremely difficult to find. The same thing goes for pre-decimal Manx,pre-decimal Channel Islands,& pre-decimal Falkland Islands notes.I bought a Manx 1938 Martins Bank 1 Quid for NZ$200 off a dealer in Auckland nearly 5 years ago. That is quite a rare note. Aidan.
You might want to keep a eye open for a copy of this book, I am waiting for mine to arrive :smile http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Banknotes...oryZ3173QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Steve, have you thought about buying the Hong Kong & polymer banknote catalogues as well? They are quite specialised books in their own right as well. It's a real shame that our Queen hasn't been depicted on any of the Ulster trading banks' notes so far. Aidan.
Dont realy have a interest in them so no, the only polymer I intend to get are any with lizzie on ( I have a Australian $5 on the way) and I do have a couple of Honk Kong due but they have HRH on them from 1961ish 1c & 10c
Steve,Hong Kong also issued a 5c. note depicting H.M. the Queen on it as well. The 5c. & 10c. notes are not easy to find, but the 1c. notes are common as muck, but they are very popular though. Have you thought about collecting older British postal orders as well? Aidan.
More great additions. I would agree that the level of detail is amazing. I look at it as true artwork.
Steve, the Bulgarian notes that have the word 'Zlatlni' on them is referring to silver. There are also notes that are denominated in Gold Leva as well. Aidan.
Steve, the banknotes of Czarist Bulgaria are actually very hard to find.I see more of the Communist Bulgarian banknotes from the 1951 issue. I can guess that you are starting to collect banknotes from European Union member states as well as banknotes from British Commonwealth member states.Bulgaria & Romania are both E.U. member states,as is both Cyprus & Malta. Are you kicking yourself for not saving a few Maltese banknotes for your collection? You can't spend Maltese Pounds after January next year. Aidan.
No Aidan I am not starting to collect notes from EU member states, it is a bit more diverse than that a lot of them are notes issued under German occupation WWI & WWII, then I sort of like the notes of the comunist block countries pre communism that is. I am not that botherd about the rest. I am also collecting Japanese invasion money and might move into those issued for the puppet regiem in China (That is a might)
Steve, the notes from Manchukuo are very hard to find. You won't have any problems getting the Japanese Occupation notes such as the Japanese Occupation of Burma & Japanese Occupation of Malaya issues.Still, you do have to be careful,as there are some genuine notes that have had deceptive forged serial numbers added. My boss & I were caught out once with some bottom denominated notes from the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines issues. Aidan.
Well as far as the JApanese go this is what I have to date, I still need to scan my Phillipines collection but that will be done shortly and I am yet to find any from French Indo China. There are a couple of books that I am trying to find on this topic but no joy so far. Steve, you could always buy some catalogues off www.amazon.com .The postage from Germany is dirt cheap. It would only cost you a few Euros for postage. Aidan.
And what catalouges do they have on Amazon that deal with Japanese occupation notes ? The two I am after are quite specialised
Steve, you should use the 'Search' function. As the old saying goes,"Seek,& ye shalt find". That's the only clue I am giving you. Aidan.
Aidan dont you think that I might well have tried Amazon, the publications I am looking for are not on it, I am now working my way through specialized dealers.
