Hi, I would like some feedback on everyones opinion on the state quarters.

Are any of them worth anything at this point in time? Are some states more valuable? Also, I have all of the proof sets and the two rolls I ordered from the US mint. What about loose coins collected in everyday change...is that worth the effort?

    Thanks

Welcome aboard,Jerseygirl. The State Quarters aren't genarally valuable. One of the U.S. members will tell you about the errors in the series that are worth looking for.

Believe it or not, the proof sets, especially if you bought the silver proofs, are going for a premium. You won't retire with them, but they're worth having. Plus, I think I understand you have two mint rolls of every series that came out? If thats the case, people are always willing to pay four times their value on E-bay for BU quarters.

Unfortunately, I wasnt smart enough to buy the silver ones. I just have the regular and it seems they are not selling for much. As far as the two roll set, with denver and philly mint, I checked on ebay and they are not selling for much either.

I did hear from reading on various boards that the Penna quarter is the most valuable. Guess thats why I joined this board, I figured the posters on here would know more than some of the sources I have been listening to.

i've heard the delaware, pennsylvania, and new jersey quarters are worth keeping. i was keeping them for awhile, but stopped and spent them when i ended up with a bunch of them. also look for the extra leaf on the wisconsin quarters.

I love the new statehood quarters. I have a few sets myself :) ..However the only one I have not seen is the Texas Quarter. Any advice on how to get the finger prints off that may appear in X amount of years..All my coins are from circulation.

    Jerseygirl,

Most of the State Quarters have value above face value in Mint State condition, especially the higher grades and some much more than others! The 1999 State Quarters and some others, fetch significant premiums in higher grades. My advice would be to keep the rolls intact and hold on to them, as the values for intact rolls from the Mints, should increase in value, especially many years after the State Quarter Program is over.

I would also advise holding on to the Proof Sets, as some already have value above the issue price, especially the 1999 and 2001 Proof Sets. Since these also contain the State Quarters, the values of some should continue to rise as the values of the lower mintage State Quarters increase. Also, check for the rare "Close AM" Variety Cents in the 1999 and 2000 Proof Sets and if you happen to have a 1998 Proof Set, look for the "Close AM" Cent in it as well.

Thats exactly what I have been told. I heard also that the PA ones are more valuable since they made less of them. I have them in rolls from the Pa and denver mint. I also have bags of them loose but most of them are pa mint. We never hardly get the denver mint in the northeast. I love this forum. Not too many people I know are into this. :smile

I believe the 1999 proof set is going for a premium as well? (silver and non-silver)

I would hang on to them. Look how much 1930s washingtons go for now. You might say there were less of them made, but there will be more collectors in the future (hopefully!)

I love the new state quarters also, some of the designs are fantastic. Except for the Wyoming quarter, however. I'll bet the designer of that coin wishes he could take a mulligan on his submission.
