Hey there folks! I just got these two small coins as part of a large wholesale lot. The first appears Greek and is in pretty nice shape. I’d love help identifying it. The second is odd…appears to have a hanging animal on the reverse and might not be ancient but rather medieval. Any help on that one would be appreciated as well. They are both about the size of a US dime if not smaller.
The first coin: Trajan AR Denarius. IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GERM DAC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / PM TRP COS VI PP SPQR, Fortuna seated left, holding rudder and cornucopiae, FORT RED below. RIC II, 319; Sear 3139; RSC 153; Paris 806; BMCRE 569. This coin was struck from 82-116 AD. I was unable to identify the second one, hopefully another member will chime in. To me it does not look ancient, possibly medieval.
Yep, as @Coins4Eli said the first is ancient Roman. The second reminds me of these tokens from the late 1700's, but I can't seem to find an exact match on Numista: ½ Penny (Norfolk – Norwich / R. Bacon) - United Kingdom – Numista
The second one is the Kingdom Of Naples under Philip III of Spain 1598 1621 Hope that gets you closer to a full attribution
