I understand that Canada is making new dollar bills. Anyone know how much truth to this and if possible what is going to be released? Thanks E!
It is believed that the Bank of Canada will be issuing a new series every 10 years. The current issue has only been in circulation since 2002-2003. Aidan.
For the new series of bills the $5 and $10 the originally did not have the holographic strip or the watermark of the prime ministers bust in the centre. So yes they did change some of the securities features on these bills, but they are still considered part of the Canadian Journey series. The tens were changed in May 2005 and the fives in November 2006. This link shows the entire series Canadian Journey Series However Somebody from the Bank of Canada did say a new series is being worked on but those will not be released until 2014-2018 I think. It was in an issue of the Canadian Coin News but I do not recall what issue.
Hello folks: I too read that article in Canadian Coin News about new banknotes coming out in 2011 I believe. I could remember wrong. I am curious though whether they will re-issue the $5 bill, or replace it with a coin. I believe they were thinking of bringing out a five dollar coin earlier, but the results of a survey they did, showed that people weren't interested in one yet. I think the new banknote design might just give them the excuse they need to do it. Ok just my thoughts.
