Even technical grading puts this one at Gem
The breast is strong for the year. Could be a bit more frosty.

Yea, I'm just going by what I see. Not strength of strike by the year. I'll guess MS65 at best. I could be wrong. Time will tell.
Wow! It's 2:10 here on the East coast. May have to wait then..... wink.png

@Pickin and Grinin ?? This write up? It says Gems are "scarce". That's why I went low.

    David Hall:

Back in the day, the 1949 was a pretty tough BU roll to find in quantity. Today, the 1949 is one of the rarer Washingtons of the 1940s in Gem condition. The issue can have very rough and marked-up surfaces. Clean surface Gems are scarce. Luster can be a little more satiny than on other issue of this era.

64 here a small obverse scratch and looks like small cuds above 3 letters? A sure beauty though. I'm hoping the small scratches aren't from cleaning, I can never spot one but those grading companies sure can.

My first impression was MS66, but then I noticed the reed mark on the neck. That isn't a good place and I think it will certainly preclude a premium gem grade, but it is still nicer than most gems. I tried to vote MS65+, but you have it set up to only accept one answer so I voted MS65.

    My guess is MS65+

They are on the slab. I am not sure what you mean about cuds. I am not seeing where you think they might be.

I will say I am weak with Washington’s…. However I do recognize a gem quality coin when I see one… I am the MS67 vote.

I’m guessing 65 at best. While the reverse seems nice with some attractive toning GW has too many hits on his head. Unless from the holder I count 5 visible to my blind eyes.

While I would like to say MS-65+, I am seeing some marks on his face and, while I am very inexperienced, I have read that grading Washington's is extremely strict. Why is that? I don't know! But that's what I've seen so far. With that, I'll say MS-64+.

I'm not very good at grading quarters, but I'll guess MS-65.

No, there are 5 bag marks on the bust (shoulder) and one on the cheek bone all of them toned over! Still there though.

I wish they would stay with the 21' crossing the Delaware and early Bust/Eagle. These modern zero relief quarters just suck.

MS 65 ...the mark on the neck keeps it out of a 66

...I will guess a newer yellow Anacs holder
