Trust me, it's worth a day's travel, unless your front lawn actually is in the path of totality. I've never flown to see one, but I have zero regrets about the three-hour drive to see the last one, and I'll be driving further than that for this one. (One does come over our house eventually, but I'd be 115 by that time, and by then I'll probably have looked for a house that doesn't have stairs.) A friend of mine flew herself and her daughter to Easter Island to catch one -- while I don't travel internationally, I would say that trip would have been worth it, too.
The path of the 2024 eclipse passes almost directly over my house, so it goes without saying it will be overcast and raining.
To be honest, I have wondered what it would be like to watch totality approach from under an overcast. Not enough to drive to a spot where it's raining, though!
