There are a tons of fakes out there. Send it off to NGC for grading and authentication. I think its a 61/62 and worth around $800-900. Most gold collectors don't buy raw based on the fact that fakes are so prevelent. We've all bought them at one time or another. So if/when you decide to sell, graded by NGC will end all the speculation and if you don't sell, it's a quality protective casing that will give you years of enjoyment and peice of mind. Either way is a nice coin and a wonderul keepsake.
You've got to remember one cannot get a real good idea of the authenticity of a coin without actually holding it in their hand, unless of course it's the famous 1865 Washington Quarter. I would suggest a visit to a local coin shop and get them to take a look at it. Don't mention anything you read here. You might be pleasantly surprised...
Thats what I'm going to do. With the coin in hand, the spots pointed out appear to be bag marks into the coin (that just caught the light funny)...not high spots. But, I could be wrong. I'm going to take it in and have it looked at...and then, if it looks OK...have it probably sent to NGC (but maybe PCGS).
