I'm gonna go ahead and put my two cents in here. It looks to me like it's taken a hit. Making it appear that way. Looking at the base of the 2 you can see some hit damage. Anyone else?
I don't see any Doubling It's a Cent from 1972.. Minted 44 years ago. If it was in circulation well enough it could affect the letters and numbers. Could be a bit of Die Deterioration from way back then also.
Hmmmm maybe this picture is better and easier to see. In the top of the curve of the 2 there looks to be an doubling there and on the end of the bottom of the 2 there you can see 2 tails.
I can't remember who told me this but according to them that is common on the 72 , it's on the master hub they said.
It's hard to tell from the photos. Another tip is to crop the photo to get all the non-coin out of there. Photscape is good photo editing system that is free to download.
If that's the case then at least I know I'm not seeing stuff! Thank you for telling me I'll google and see what I can find out about it.
The master hub doubling is only on IN GOD WE TRUST. There is no doubling on the date for the master hub doubling variety. I see no doubling whatsoever on your coin.
