Greek ancient coins on 10 Drachm note

My latest greek banknote for my collection, hard to come by in high quality.
10 Drachm 1954 note, the last note to complete my Bank of Greece collection (1926-1998)
this note replaced the old 10.000 Drachm notes (conversion 1000 old for 1 new Drachm)





One of the 10.000 Drachma old notes, much larger then the new note, so more space
for even more coins.

Cool! Notice how many of those coins were issued in places currently inside the borders of Greece.

I always thought it wrong to portray people, ie politicians on US coins and currencies. Druther our ideals and symbols (eagles, buildings, natural monuments, liberty, buffalos, etc)

 

Actually I find that quite attractive.

 

The government would like to increase usage of $1 coins over paper notes that wear out instantly. I wonder if people would take the hint if they would replace George Washington with a photo of a dollar coin.

 

The US issued so many beautifull banknotes in the old days , that changed in 1928
when the large sized notes were replaced with the small sized current banknotes.

Great notes. In their day, the government was trying to get people to accept paper over silver coin; today they want us to use longer lasting tokens over fragile paper. Getting people to accept change will take a generation or two. If they stopped making dollar bills, the problem would go away sooner but the politicians that make such decisions don't want to go away with them. We are moving to a cashless society making me wonder what coin/bill collectors will be doing in another few decades.

Here’s little trivia for all the CoinTalkers out there:

IN GOD WE TRUST was first used on US paper money in 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. (Yes, this information & $1 might buy you a cup of coffee today). However, if you look at this 1886 five dollar silver certificate, you will find IN GOD WE TRUST spelled-out across the four silver dollar images.

 

Completely agree, large sized US notes are gorgeous. Even the ones that portrays Washington or other political figures had well designed reverses.
