    SGS Slabbed!

Yes, I do! I purchased 2 slabbed coins. One Morgan and one Peace Dollar. Let me see if I can upload them...
    Nana

I can't! Can someone tell lme how to upload pics from my computer. I keep trying to and it keep saying I'm using 792KB and the limit is 100KB. I've only got as far as ONE pic! How can that be exceeding the limit!

HELP!! What am I doing wrong??

    Hi Nana,

I'm not the genius on the uploading but see that you have an "unhappy" face concerning the SGS coins.

Could you give us the dates and grades of the coins though?
Maybe MS67-68 on the Morgan and MS66 on the Peace?

Seems to be their favorite grades.

Actually its: MS65 on the 1891-S Morgan and MS66 on the 1926-S Peace Dollar!

Your pictures are probably in some form of oversized BMP format. Try shrinking the pictures a little with whatever photo editor you have installed on your computer or try finding a site that will allow you to upload larger file sizes (maybe photobucket?).

Ok, one out of two ain't bad. 91-S is tougher in the higher grades so they held off on the 66 or higher.

Now, can I ask you if you paid only a fraction of retail value as stated by the seller?
I'm assuming you bought these on line and have a good idea who the seller may have been.

    Sure! For the 91-S I paid $40.00; for the 26-S Peace I paid $66.00
    Too much, right??

    Nana,

I won't say that you paid too much as I can't make that call without seeing the coins. What I can tell you is that the Dealer bid on these two coins in those grades is nearly $5000. In a slab by a legitimate service such as PCGS, NGC or ANACS dealers would seriously look at them.

In an SGS slab I doubt they would even consider them.
I don't know how much you read of the other responses to this thread but SGS gets absolutely NO respect here because they don't deserve it.
I would be willing to bet that the coins you have aren't even uncirculated and there's a good chance that they have been cleaned.

I know I'm coming off as harsh here and I apologize for that but it's the truth.

I wouldn't touch an SGS coin with a ten foot pole unless I could actually see it myself and then I would probably drop the grade by 10 points and pay accordingly.

    I'd stay away from them.

Wow, I missed that but that was my guess. The same guy owns Abon and SGS.
Grossly overgrades and sells to the unsuspecting. Real pond scum.

I have, and I knew what I was doing when I did it too. I needed a set of clad 1999 proof quarters and they had a complete set selling for less than I could get them elsewhere. I was just looking for standard PF68/69 DCAM coins and they were exactly that, strait out of the proof set. I got what I paid for, otherwise I wouldn't have bought them.

Nope, no SGS coins for me. However, I do own 1 NTC modern proof.

Purchased a SGS encapsuled (To a graded means that it was looked at before being assigned a grade) nickel on ebay to see just how badly the grading was. I think I paid about $4 S&H included. I made sure I did not buy it from Abacom as I didn't want him to further profit from his fraud. Anyway the coin was like MS 63 and I wrote to the seller and explained that this was trash and I was not going to give him negative feedback because I purchased this knowing full well this would be trash but that if he sold more of these he would be ripping people off. He said he didn't know anything about coins but had purchased an auction lot that contain several SGS coins and gave me a refund even though I had not asked for one. As far as I followed his listing he did not sell any others other than the 1 or 2 before me.
Now, I purchased an NNC MS67 1943D unattributed D/D Jefferson Nickel from someone I had purchased many NGC and PCGS unattributed RPM's from and boy I was sorely disappointed with this coin the only thing missing is the gold security (tape) seal.

    I have avoided the pleasure of SGS slabbed coins. However, I do have several other non-prime TPG's. Some of them are junk, some are respectable. Speaking only for Lincolns mostly 1935 - 1958 MS65 to MS68 grades;

    GEC SLABS from Ebay

I bought this as an experiment, paid $23 on Ebay. Slabbed as MS-67 by G.E.C. Grade Evaluation Company. In real life is a nice slider AU. Notice the neck, I think somebody took a chain to Liberty !!!

I have also been cherry picking this sellers proof / cameo Washingtons until last week, I bought a 1963 ULTRA CAMEO ( my opinion per picture) Washington Proof and received a different coin than pictured. Emailed seller ( they are in Alaska) and have yet to receive a reply.

    I'll keep you posted

USCGS = United States Coin Grading Service. It looks to be a self slabbing job. No scan code or even any number.

Probably would have been better if The US Coast Guard Service had graded it.
