So this morning I went to my bank to deposit a check. I spend alot of time browsing Cointalk, and I always read all the posts in this forum, even though I have never searched rolls for silver. Well, this morning was the first time. I got 500$ worth of customer rolled half dollars. I just found 5 rolls of 40%ers, and I'm not done searching! !!!!! Talk about beginners luck!!!!
I love searching the rolls but i hate dumping the coins back on the bank. Often times the coin counter rips me off and i end up paying for that silver anyway.
Thanks. Looks like most of the rolls are marked. 74d, bicentennial, clad, 65-70, etc. Makes me think someone stole them, or Gramps passed away and relatives are cashing a collection in. Really sad to think about.
On a better note, the bank tellers couldn't wait to help! "I have a bunch of rolls with silver too!", said one teller.
Awesome find. I've had that happen one time, very exciting but sad also that someone dumped a collection someone thought would be an inheritance.
Congrats on the finds. I dump my roll searches (not very large amounts and I rarely have time to search nowadays) into coinstar and get 100% of my funds towards Amazon, Southwest, or something else I'm looking for.
Looks like you were in the right spot at the right time. Congrats! Hopefully it was just some ignorant relatives who turned the coins in, rather than them being stolen. Unfortunately, it's probably the latter though, as I've been at my local coin ship numerous times when people have brought in their similarly marked rolls of inherited coins.
It's certainly possible they were stolen, but rather unlikely. Cashed in by someone who doesn't know any better is a much larger possibility, but you're unlikely to ever know for sure, and since you acquired the coins fairly, your conscience should be clean. Congrats.
The writing you see was already on the wrappers. The far right roll is inaccurate though, every coin in the roll was silver.
You can tell by the labeling that someone cashed in grandpas collection. I roll hunted for years and never found full rolls of silver but occasionally I would find rolls where a novice must have picked out the 90%ers and did not know or did not care about the 40%ers. Then again silver was a lot less then.
