I just found the intials VDB on a 1993 d penny. It is located beneath the arm area. I was under the impression vdb was only on the first few years of the lincoln cent. Please educate this newbie :smile
Not a whole bunch. In BU, $2-$3 on the 1955 and $7-$8 on the 1972 D. Not sure on the 55's, but on the 72's some have it and some do not (die polished).
MissWis: The designer, Victor David Brenner, had his initials placed on the reverse bottom in 1909. Because they were so large there was an uproar, and they were removed after a short period of production. Later, in 1918 they were replaced on Lincoln's shoulder. They are now barely visible.
Ah..Gotcha my eyes really strain to see these initials..Which story is true..Brenner was paid for his work or that the initilas were to large? or Both?
Rumor was that some of the good ole' boys didn't want Brenner's initials on the coin, because he was Jewish. Their official stance was that they did not want a non-treasury employee's initials on it. Sorry I cannot quote a source, I can't remember where I read it.
do any of u kind folks know who's intials are on the obverse, lower rite corner of the lincoln building, FG?
