1943 D penny with odd minto mark

    The digits in 1943 look like they took a hit. In my opinion it's a hit on the mintmark. If it were a Die Chip it would normally fill in the letter completely.

    Yeah - whatever happened it looks like the 9 and the 3 got involved in it too.

    I used a 60x loupe from my friend ( this was taken with a 30x) , looks just like a partial grease filled die, no indents on the mint mark, it's flush across

    If it was caused by a grease-filled die, the mintmark would disappear, but I can't state positively that it is PMD. I'd need a better close-up photo of the mintmark that isn't so blurry.

    Amazing how two photos of the same coin can look so different. On the first it looks like it took a hit and metal was shoved upwards. On second photo it looks like a partial die chip. Got me baffled.
